Today’s very special Discussion and Service time will be devoted to a “Transgender Day of Remembrance.”
Every year throughout the world, TDOR is observed to recognize the transgender people murdered over the previous year. Most of the people killed are women of color and they are usually murdered only because they are transgender. This crisis is occurring all around the world. On this day we will take time to honor victims. We think this is the first and only TDOR event in Lake County, if anyone knows of others planned this year, please let us know so we can get the word out.
The Discussion (ONSITE ONLY) and Service (ONSITE AND VIA ZOOM) will be led by Katie Koehler and Bruce Cusic.
Katie Koehler is a transgender female and a retired letter carrier from New Jersey. Though she has only been transitioning since January 2021, she is involved with several LGBTQA+ groups including12-step and support. Katie resides in The Villages. She believes “we who are blessed have an obligation to those who are struggling.” Katie will share her story in the 9:30 a.m. educational event and provide some transgender education and will lead the Transgender Day of Remembrance ceremony at 11 a.m. on November 20, 2022.
Bruce Cusic currently serves on the board of directors team for Triangle Connection, a LGBTQ+ group supporting Lake County. A native of north Florida, he spent most of his career living and working across the U.S., China, and the Philippines with the call center industry as a director and senior VP. He and his husband retired to Lake County a few years ago and today call Ormond Beach their home. Bruce will assist Katie in both the 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. events on November 20, 2022.
