During this annual traditional service we name and honor the transgender people who have lost their lives from transphobic violence in the last year.
Transgender Day of Remembrance began in 1999. Its purpose was to remember Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was murdered in 1998. The TDOR vigil has become an international annual event, recognizing the many transgender people lost to hate and violence each year. These losses often are unreported (or misreported) by the media. TDOR serves to raise our awareness about anti-transgender violence.
Our Welcoming Congregation committee invites you to join UUCLC for this powerful ritual. We will also be holding a Special Plate collection to support Equality Florida, a non-profit, that provides education and advocacy for LGBTQIA+ rights in the Florida legislature.
