On October 8th 2023 Lake County Conservation Council, in collaboration of UUCLC and the SJEC committee, held a round table discussion regarding Protecting Rural Lands in Lake County. About 35 people attended, representing 12 conservation non-profits. Commissioner Sean Parks updated us on various county initiatives to protect our rural lands. Deborah Shelley, President of the Aquatic Preserve Alliance of Central Florida, educated us on the Rural Protection Act and it’s challenges as cities annex county land. Marty Proctor, member of the Lake County Water Authority gave a brief presentation on the Dark Skies initiative. Conservation groups shared their successes and encouraged attendees to participate in various initiatives.
It was a great day for conservation!
