UUCLC volunteers are responsible for virtually every aspect of our community, and our committees are vital to its success. Help us thrive by bringing your ideas and energy to an area of need that speaks to you. It’s a great way to connect with others and make a difference.
Social Justice and Environment (SJE)
SJE supports congregation members and local groups in working toward a more just community socially, economically, and environmentally through educating ourselves and our community, advocating for issues and marginalized groups, and relationship-building with government leaders, faith-based organizations, and social justice and environmental organizations. Finance
The Mission of the Finance Committee is to oversee the finances of the Congregation in a responsible manner. The Goals of the Finance Committee are to support the Treasurer, to increase income through pledging and fundraising, to decrease outgo through fund saving, to develop the annual budget, and to educate the Congregation on its financial processes and status. The Finance Committee meets monthly, provides the Agenda and records the Minutes for each meeting, advises and is advised by the Board of Trustees, and reports as needed to the Congregation and to its Members.
Building & Grounds
The Building & Grounds Committee is responsible for the operation and maintenance of our beautiful new building including security (Safety Team). One of our goals is to enhance the landscaping of our property. If you enjoy gardening, join us Saturday mornings.
Care and Connect
We network within our Congregation to reach out to those in need.
Communications
The Communications Committee oversees the UUCLC internal and external communications, including UUCLC’s website and social media. The committee also publishes a weekly bulletin and a monthly newsletter. They are responsible for broadcast email and at times surface mail communications with members and friends. They may also place ads or articles in local publications. If you like to write, take photos, and/or engage on social media, the Communications Committee needs you!
Music: (seasonal)
We adopted the title of UU Singers from our founding members and our choir has held the name since that time. The music committee is composed of volunteer musicians and singers. Do you love to sing? Play an instrument? We welcome anyone who wants to share his or her talents with us.
Worship (Sunday Service planning)
The Worship committee, in coordination with our minister, coordinates speakers, chalice lighters, readings and music for our weekly Sunday services. These services sometimes include special events such as our Water Communion.
Discussion Group
The Discussion Group committee schedules speakers, videos, and lively general discussions on a variety of topics, including timely issues of the day, local social justice initiatives, and spiritual exploration. Discussions are weekly, every Sunday at 10:00 am, prior to our Sunday service. See Policies and Procedures for discussion groups here.
Membership and Congregational Support
Congregational Support Committee members welcome newcomers when they arrive, answer their questions, and invite them to explore activities of interest to them. We provide orientations for Prospective Members a couple of times a year, based on interest. We cover, in broad strokes, some of the history of UUism, the UUA’s Shared Values, UUCLC’s mission and vision, what it means to be a member, how to get involved in congregational life, and other related topics.
Hospitality
The Hospitality Committee manages our kitchen and serves from it to nurture the community, both our own and the wider community. We understand “nurture” in material terms: we provide Sunday morning fare for our social hours, and we host occasions, from a pot-luck Thanksgiving to events of cultural and social interest. We also understand “nurture” in a spiritual sense: to offer comfort, compassion, and welcome to anyone, regardless of who they are, who is in need.
Lifespan Groups and Activities
We help guide the congregation in their search for truth and meaning by coordinating educational offerings, such as classes taught by our minister or congregants, small discussion groups, and shared interest groups (meditation, tai chi). See Ongoing Activities.
Safe Congregation
The Safe Congregation Committee is an umbrella committee whose purpose is to develop policies and procedures related to the emotional and physical well-being of our congregation. We work in conjunction with other committees such as Building and Grounds (safety team), Education and Social Justice.
Technology Administrative Committee
The Technology Administrative Committee keeps track of technology used by UUCLC for church management and communications, including hardware, software, and internet accounts.
Welcoming Congregation
Our Welcoming congregation committee works to help UUCLC continue to be truly welcoming to all people by educating us about the LGBTQIA+ community, helping the congregation to use more inclusive language in our communications and actions, and by coordinating activities with local Pride groups. The committee also organizes classes, worship services, seminars and collects donations to help local LGBTQIA+ charities.
Audio-Visual and Zoom Tech Team
This Team provides the technical support needed for in-person online services, meetings, and events sponsored by UUCLC. The team works to keep abreast of new technologies and offers user support to UUCLC members.
