Nicole Pressley, Director of UUA’s Side with Love has asked us to organize a petition drive. She notes that UU has been active in Florida’s protecting freedom petition drive to put a constitutional amendment protecting abortion on the November 2024. You have supported this work. However, we need to keep attention on this issue or stage mobilizations and drives to reach 1.2 million needed signatures.
YOUR SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE HAS RESPONDED BY INITIATING THIS COMPETITION:
- Ask your family, friends, neighbors, strangers to sign the petition.
- Turn them in at UUCLC any Sunday in October
- The gift certificate will be awarded to the person who collects the most correctly signed petitions by the end of October.
- The winner will be announced and the gift certificate awarded at the PotLuck on November 5th.
Ballot Title: Amendment to Limit Governmental Interference with Abortion
Ballot Summary: No law shall prohibit, penalize, delay, or restrict abortion before viability or when necessary to protect the patient’s health, as determined by the patient’s health, as determined by the patient’s health care provider. This amendment does not change the Legislature’s constitutional authority to require notification to a parent or guardian before a minor has an abortion
