SJEC was honored to welcome 26 local residents to the social hall for a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta on Friday May 3. Our guests included clients of LovExtension living within walking distance of UUCLC, plus eleven residents of Lake Ridge Village. This was more than twice as many guests as for the Valentine party for seniors. Word is spreading that our lunch parties for seniors are a lot of fun.

Lunch was a buffet to build your own taco and/or tortilla from ten ingredients along with a Strawberry Frozen Virgin Margarita.  Dessert was mini-cupcakes and Susan Z-B’s famous chocolate chip cookies.

Karen Frank presided over the games program. The games included “getting to know you” questions related to Mexico, a Cinco de Mayo trivia contest, Loteria (Mexican bingo), and a The Hot Sombrero game. Linda Myers and Sandy Davenhall provided Mexican decorations.

Thank you to the UUCL C members involved in preparing the food, greeting, mingling and assisting our guest with mobility limitations.  Laurie Brothers, Dawn Reed, Jane Hepting, Karen Frank, Karen Woolhouse, Susan Moore, Alexandra Leigon, and Susan Z-B.  These parties are part of SJEC’s community outreach. We were delighted to have such an increase in attendance at our second event, and to see what a good time our guests had.  A guest, who attended both of the parties, called to let us how much she enjoyed them and appreciated us for hosting them. These parties were an experiment held for the first time this year.  The photos show he kitchen crew in action, the social hall filled with people, Karen F and Alexandra leading a game of Mexican loteria (words turned out to be in Spanish!).
