2nd Annual Trout Lake Nature Service

On Sunday March 24 SJEC hosted the second annual UUCLC service at Trout Lake Nature Center. The theme this year was “Our Connection To Nature”, and Rev. Cynthia was the speaker on this topic. The service was
very well attended and the weather cooperated to give us a chilly but fine day.

The program started with an outdoor Discussion Group led by Karen Frank, where everyone share poems, quotes, songs, readings that were meaningful to them about nature. After the discussion group Chris Cleveland offered Tai Chi and there was open time for people to explore the trails.  A highlight of walk to the lake was a large gator!

The service was held in the main building. People sang familiar songs with great gusto, led by our unaccompanied mini-choir of Val Rosado, Chris Cleveland, Alexandra Legion, and Susan Moore. The congregation reflection was a time for people to set an intention for a specific action during the following week to deepen their connection to
nature, and 43 people shared their intention. The service concluded with a presentation by Eileen Tramontana, Executive Director of Trout Lake, on their current projects followed by a selection by Pete Conde on Native American flute. During Eileen’s update a free will collection was taken and raised $876 of donations to benefit Trout Lake’s education work. This is a 20% increase from the congregation donation at the 2023 service, and is much appreciated. After the service there was a “bring your own” picnic on the grounds at Trout Lake, with beverages and snacks provided by SJEC members. It was wonderful to be part of a service at Trout Lake. Thank you toeveryone who helped to make the service possible, and particular thanks to Eileen and her Trout Lake staff members who hosted us so generously.
